Social Difference
“Why is Social Media a must-have?”
“Who follows their dentist on Instagram?”
“What do dental practices even post about?”
All legitimate questions.
It’s 2019. Everyone is saying it, so I might as well too. Social Media is the NEW MARKETING. For some, it’s a hard pill to swallow. For others, it’s extremely exciting. Social Media is taking over the world and it’s time that businesses, both large and small, get in the game.
Yes. That includes you, Doctors.
Why is Social Media a must-have?
It’s affordable marketing. Or at least significantly more affordable than traditional marketing channels.
On average, a billboard can cost anywhere from $3,000-$15,000 every four weeks. All you can do is cross your fingers and hope that people driving by actually take the time to look up and take 3 seconds to understand who you are and what you do.
Social Media is very similar to a billboard except you can track the number of people who have actually seen, interacted, and clicked on your post. The numbers are there. The days of Russian roulette in marketing have finally come to a close. When it comes to spending money on marketing, seeing numbers come out of your investment is just as exciting as finding that extra $20 bill in your jacket pocket that you haven’t worn in a year.
However, don’t just post and hope for the best. To get the biggest bang for your buck in social media, you need a strategy.
What do dental practices even post about?
A dentist should post about people. Unless you have a page directly geared towards your fellow dentists, no one wants to just see pictures of teeth. You should have a page that describes the culture, advancement, and people you experience every day in the office. People want to see that they aren’t about to walk into a stale, clinical office, but a welcoming and genuine practice that cares for both teeth and people.
The best way to accomplish this starts with branding. In today’s Instagram world, having a brand is extremely important. Your page is like a piece of art. You want to catch people’s eye and show them a good brand. Honestly, if I found a beautifully branded “Dog Poop Bag” Instagram page, I’d probably follow it.
Next, custom photography. This is probably the most important boost to your social pages. Find out everything you need to know about the importance of photography, courtesy of one of our lovely photographer, Caroline, here.
Here’s an example of a good post versus a bad one.
Which post do you think will attract more patients to your office? Chances are, people probably don’t even know what they’re looking at when they see the post about teeth. They probably do care that the practice with the great brand, custom picture, and review looks like something they want to experience as well!
When it comes to Social Media, don’t let it get swept under the rug. It’s an amazing tool that can foster genuine human connection and make your practice that much better!
